Ballet is an exhibition by Turku-based Teija Huusko, dance teacher, and Jaska Poikonen, photographer, consisting of gripping photographs engendered by the aesthetics of ballet – a focus quite rare in the Finnish art scene.
At the centre of these “choreographies of the moment” is the physical experience of ballet, and the emotions grounded in it. The atmosphere in the pieces is born out of the blending of choreography and photography, backdropped by thought-provoking milieus, with excerpts from Finnish poet Raisa Jäntti’s anthology Grand plié adding a finishing touch to this exhibition.
Ballet is first and foremost a collaborative work of photography by two creative artists – and also the artists’ first collaborative exhibition.
Ballet premiered at Turku's Sibeliusmuseum 2.2.-2.4.2023, reaching a top audience. The exhibition will be seen at The Finnish National Opera and Ballet's arena tour and on Kuopio Dance Festival, the oldest and largest Nordic dance festival on 14.-20.6.2023.
